CHOP - Culinary Historians of the Philippines in Manila

I'm a proud member of the Culinary Historians of Washington, DC (CHoWDC), and with the organization's blessing, I founded a similar group in Manila, called the Culinary Historians of the Philippines in Manila (CHOPinManila). I gathered 7 friends and family members and, after a few meetings, we officially established CHOPinManila in February 2011, with the 7 founding members making up the first Board of Directors.
CHOPinManila is an educational, nonprofit organization dedicated to: (1) the study of the history and evolution of the regional foods, cuisines, and culinary customs of the Philippines as well as those from all parts of the world; and (2) the advocacy for disseminating information on nutritional and economical cooking through outreach programs, workshops, lectures, seminars and field trips. Membership is open to any individual or organization with a serious interest in the purposes of the organization.

The Board of Directors, from left: Regina Newport (President); Nanette Medina (Treasurer); Nigna Colayco (2nd Vice-President);Carmen Perez (1st Vice-President); Gracita Tolentino Sieber (Asst. Treasurer/Membership Officer); Leonora P. Tolentino (Secretary); Ada Bernal (Asst. Secretary).

Though still in its infancy, CHOPinManila is in the process of determining a list of projects to undertake, with a view to accomplishing its two-pronged mission. We will also embark soon on a membership drive, to gather together like-minded individuals and organizations who will play important roles in helping us achieve our goals.

A newsletter and our own website are on our to-do list.

Wish us luck!
